Bunker Hill Monument Association Veteran Ribbons

1825

Forty veterans of the Battle of Bunker Hill, along with 190 Revolutionary War veterans, attended a 50th anniversary event in 1825 in Boston and wore ribbons like these. These ribbons belonged to Reverend Joseph Thaxter who was a chaplain in the Army during the early years of the War. He had graduated from Harvard and later became the pastor of the Congregational Church in Edgartown on Martha's Vineyard, off the coast of Massachusetts.
