Frazer Family Pincushion

1769

This pillow-shaped pincushion was likely given to Mary and Persifor Frazer at the birth of their first child, Sarah, in 1769. Sarah later wrote a memoir including the story of her mother's secret delivery of a letter from her father, who had been captured by the British Army, to George Washington. The letter alerted Washington to the poor conditions of the American prisoners.
