Portrait of Jacob Latch
1845
This rare life portrait of a Revolutionary War veteran, Pennsylvania militiaman Jacob Latch, was taken within a few years of his death in 1845. Like many surviving members of the Revolutionary War's armed forces, Latch benefited from the Pension Act of 1832, which authorized monthly payments to those veterans who had served for more than six months.
