Founding Fathers of Colombia Postage Stamps

1955

The Declaration of Independence and the United States' successful war of independence against Great Britain inspired a wave of revolutions in Latin America during the early 1800s. This 1955 Colombian postal stamp commemorates Generals Jose de San Martin, Simón Bolívar, and George Washington as founding fathers of their countries. Bolívar is considered a founder of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and his native Venezuela. Like Bolívar, Argentine General San Martín is remembered as a liberator of Spanish South America.
